This course derives from a 6th-grade curriculum that will help your child further advance his or her reading and writing skills. The summer session is strategically divided into two parts: Part 1 focuses on the personal writing unit; one of the most commonly used units in middle school. This includes: writing a description, a letter, and a narrative. A research project/presentation will be due in the last class. Part 2 will primarily focus on expository--the formal aspect of writing. This entails writing a comparison and contrast work and a book report. In addition to the writing units, the class will cover revisions, vocabulary, and grammar.

In short, the material being used in these sessions is based on a highly concentrated exposure, practice, and assessment of the major skills required in Honors 10th grade, AP Language, and AP Literature English curriculum. Every class will consist of focused lectures, on-demand writing, analyzing literature, editing & revising sessions, studying essential literary terms, and strong essay organization. In addition to the daily skills covered, they will be asked to participate and work on literary analysis and writing assignments that relate to the skills & topics discussed in class. As we live in uncertain times in education, it is best that students get accustomed to taking part & actively participate in distant learning and it starts here at CEI.
